What is Iridology?
Iridology is the study of the iris of the eye to determine information about bodily constitutional strengths and weaknesses, levels of inflammation and toxaemia, the functioning of the eliminative systems, body systems and organs, and the causes and symptoms of disease.
It is a quick, accurate and painless system of health analysis through the examination of the coloured part of the eye known as the iris. Proclaimed throughout the ages as "windows of the soul", the eyes are now acknowledged as mirrors of the body, recording the condition of the various organs and tissues throughout the body. Equine Iridology is the science of assessing the horse’s health by analysing the fibre structure, colour and markings of the iris of the eye. By assessing the various markings within a horse’s iris, a trained iridologist can detect past, present and future (developing) health issues. Ideally, developing health issues can then be addressed long before they become a problem that will affect the horse’s performance.
Equine Iridology enables the constitution of the horse to be assessed, shows organ and inherited strengths and weaknesses, where tissue is damaged or imbalanced, the extent of the damage and whether it is old or new. Iridology can also detect muscle spasms, digestion issues and can indicate if temperament changes may be a result of a physical problem. Iridology can often provide an explanation for a horse’s lack of performance or re-occurrence of an injury/problem.
How does Iridology Work:
Iris marks are formed due to the eye’s unique relationship with the brain. The iris is an extension of the brain endowed with many thousands of nerve endings, microscopic blood vessels, as well as muscle and connective tissue. Every organ is connected to the iris via the nervous system and the nerve fibres receiving their impulses through the optic nerve, optic thalami, and the spinal cord.
Iridologists use a grid of the iris (which is species specific) to correlate the markings to specific locations within the body. The texture and colouration etc of the markings are all relevant to the diagnosis.
Why Use Iridology
The iris records information about the state and functioning of every organ in the body as well as levels of inflammation and toxicity. This enables the underlying cause of the symptoms we may experience to be detected and removed.
The greatest advantage of iridology over other forms of health screening is that changes appear in the iris before the physical symptoms actually develops. Therefore preventive action may be taken to improve health and avoid those diseases which might otherwise follow.
Often horse owners are aware that their horse has a problem, but struggle to pin-point the origin of that problem. Iridology can be an extremely powerful diagnostic tool. Equine iridology can often be the missing link in a treatment where you are not quite sure why the horse is reacting or moving the way it does. An iridology assessment is particularly useful in the following circumstances:
- Before buying a new horse: iridology can alert potential owners to past or ongoing health issues so that these can be managed effectively;
- Before breeding from a horse: ideally both the Dam and Sire can be assessed for inherited strengths and weaknesses;
- If a horse is showing behavioural issues: iridology can assess if there is an underlying physical reason for the behavioural issue;
- If you have any health concerns over your horse;
- If your horses performance drops, for no apparent reason;
- A general ‘MOT’ for your horse: can assess if the current feed and management regime is suited to your horse.
Iridology monitors movements towards disease and towards health. As the tissues become less inflamed or toxic the iris registers the treatment response and healing process.
Iridology helps horse owners to become more aware of their horses strengths and weaknesses, and therefore to become more conscious of what they can do to help their horses.
Iridology is a safe, non-toxic, non-invasive and inexpensive method of analysis that can be integrated with both orthodox and complimentary medicine
Iridology is a universal language , the principles of which are common to all animals. Human iridology is now very highly advanced. Equine iridology has been studied extensively over the last twenty years, and is now making rapid advancements and becoming recognised as a important diagnostic technique for the management of horses health.
Today, Iridology is part of the curriculum in the medical schools in Moscow, the Bobigy Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris Nord, and various Egyptian and Greek medical schools. It is used worldwide by natural medicine practitioners and we have even more extensive scientific resources for the ever continuing corroboration of our findings.
What will it not show?
Iridology will not show or name a specific disease but provides information about the body tissues which indicate tendencies toward conditions of "disease", often before symptoms appear. Iridology will not reveal surgery performed under anesthesia as nerve impulses are discontinued. Iridology cannot locate parasites, gallstones, or germ life, but will indicate the presence of inflammation and toxic conditions which are a refuge for their development. It will not show pregnancy, as that is a normal function of the female body.
Iridologists believe this information may be used to demonstrate a patient's susceptibility towards certain illnesses, to reflect past medical problems, or to predict health problems which may be developing.
